The great thing about KAUST is that that they organize fall, winter and spring enrichment programs that everybody can join. We got to Saudi just in time to enjoy all the WEP classes the university has to offer. Students get credit for the lectures they attend and dependents like me get to learn new things.
We went to the launch on Saturday and I expected some kind of opening ceremony, maybe a speech by the organizers or the president of the university. Instead I saw tables full of food and drink. Lots of people were there to eat and I guess that’s when we realized that we didn’t have to spend on dinner that evening!
The first lecture I attended was called Navigating Business Communications with speaker Amjad Shacker, Corporate Communications GM of the biggest telecom company in the Arab states, Saudi Telecom Company .
Wow, I haven’t attended a Comm class in about 10 years. Honestly it felt great to hear a lecture in English. Really felt like being in college all over again. I think they handed out free lunch to the people who were there a bit earlier. Too bad a missed it hehe!
They will be showing free classic and contemporary movies at the cinema for the next two weeks: The Artist, Hugo, Fuel, Super 8, A.I. and lots more. I’ve probably seen a bunch of them but I love the whole cinema experience so I’m going to a couple anyway.
I’m planning to attend Creative Places for Collaborative and Innovative Cities later this week because I’m inspired by my best friend, Michelle, who is doing her masters in Urban Planning. Besides all the WEP classes, I’ve also joined a Maternity Wellness Group, Arabic for Beginners class and prenatal yoga. I guess I’m pretty busy for someone unemployed!
