It’s been a while since I’ve written here because well, life. That and I didn’t have too many good things to say recently and I thought it would just be wiser to keep my mouth shut.
Some people have told me that when they were researching about KAUST online, all they saw were perfect pictures and just perfect descriptions and blogs about life here. They wanted to know more about the “real” KAUST but couldn’t really find anything of the sort. We do live a good life but we also have problems, issues, etc. You know what, a lot of people here are so nice and lovely. It was just unfortunate that I met some really awful and fake b*tches early on. Hahah I’m leaving anyway so I don’t care. I might even post their initials here. Just kidding 😀
When I started my blog it was to inform friends and family about what we were doing in KAUST and Saudi Arabia. Over time though, I started to realize that my readers were not family or friends (that’s what WhatsApp and Facebook are for, it turns out) but people who were interested in coming to KAUST and to Saudi Arabia in general. That is why I try to be as honest as I can about things here but also careful because I don’t want to face the risk of getting a 24-hour final exit notice haha.
Now that we are leaving, I still won’t dish about everything just because I don’t want to burn bridges and I honestly owe a lot to this university and community.
We are moving to Spain later this month. We only have a few weeks left and suddenly I’ve got a lot to say again (positive things, of course)! So I will be posting more stuff on here. Stay tuned!
Hi Rose,
Thank you for this blog! Even though it has been a while since you’ve left KAUST, I’ve found the information helpful. I am trying to get a complete picture of life here. A lot of the blogs you’ve posted are positive, but I wanted to know what you did not like about living in KAUST? Did you have any negative experiences that prospective residents should know about or anything that would be a concern? Once again, thank you for detailing your life there for the last 4 years!
